Piton Village football tournament sponsored by Evaco

The Evaco group sponsored a football tournament for the inhabitants of Piton. This sporting event was organized by the Village Council. It will be extended over 4 months. The tournament was launched on June 11 by a match of veterans [the villagers aged between 70 and 80]. This unique initiative aims to promote sports in the impoverished areas. The organizers aim to sensitize youngsters on social scourges such as the consumption and trade of illegal drugs or other illicit substances.

According to Kevin Ragnuth, a member of the Piton Village Council, this football tournament is made available to as many people as possible so as to promote sports in the community. “In the actual socio-economic context, it is very important, if not essential, to promote sports among young people, particularly those impoverished and marginalized regions. Sport is an effective tool to fight social evils in various regions of the island”, he explains.

Launching of the Gala Match 2017

Since the beginning of the tournament the villagers are very motivated. Due to lack of resources or initiative, no such activities have been organized in the village during the last 15 years. With the financial support of the Evaco group, the Piton Village Council was able to provide the necessary equipment for the tournament. Several teams have been created including the National Football Club (FC), Teenagers FC and Circle FC, among others. The tournament will end in October 2017 and several prizes will be awarded to the winners.

Participating in socio-economic development
